Wow! I have been horribly bad at keeping up with the Hicks family blog! I plan to get better and write some more informative stuff. But until then here is a picture of my dad at probably 16yrs or so. It looks like he is very proud of this car or something. 

Earl Stanley Hicks (my dad) is the son of Robert Stanley Hicks, and the grandson of Robert Henry Hicks.  

I plan on getting dad to fill out some answers on a oral history interview. Then I will post them here. 

Really, I plan to be better at this, so make another visit here in about a month and see whats been updated. Or better yet, send me a Hicks story of your own. 

Ralph Hicks

I don't know much about Ralph Hicks. Other than he is my graddaddy's brother and he was born in 1928, on Christmas. Here are a few pictures.

 I don't know when this was taken. Maybe in the 1970s? Bob, Woodrow, Grandaddy (aka: Stanley) and Ralph.

Robert and Robert

My grandfather's name was Robert Stanley Hicks. Most people called him Stanley.  His younger brother's name was Robert Henry Hicks Jr. Why did their parents give them the same first name? I don't know for sure, but family lore says that Robert Henry (Bob) was supposed to be named "Junior". Who ever filled out the birth record assumed that ment he was to be named after his father with Jr attached. Therefore, he legally became Robert Henry Hicks Jr. I called him Uncle Bob, others called him Bob, or Junior. This family story may not be true, but it was funny to me when I heard the story as a kid.
Uncle Bob passed away December 17th 2011. He was a funny guy and will be missed by all of us.

Remembering Grandaddy Hicks

This photograph seems to have been taken in the 1980s. Probably early 80s, because I don't remember my granddaddy ever looking like this. This is the way I remember him:

A letter from England dated December 10 1944 from Robert Stanley Hicks to his mother. Was Wilena married to Clarence Harris yet? When did his boat get shot out from under him? He wasn't able to see Jr yet. Was he ever able to? If you know the answer to any of these questions, leave a comment.

Aww..isn't he cute.  This is my grandfather Robert Stanley Hicks. Son of Robert Henry Hicks of Stockbridge Georgia. He was born 17th of December 1920 and died 12th of March 1996. A few things I remember are: 1. Granddaddy (as I called him) would bring you a bacon and egg biscuit from McDonalds in the morning if you spent the night at his house. 2. He would take my sister, Mandy and I to the park at Fort Gillem and then to the 7 Eleven to get a slushy. 3. We would ride in the back of his old Ford pickup truck. (It was safe to do that back in the 80s)
